The Faith Mission returns to its Arran Root
At the end of April, special events are planned to take place at Sannox Christian Centre on the east coast of Arran.
Arran has a special place in the life of the Faith Mission. Back in 1861, a twelve year old boy called John George Govan came to Arran on holiday, and while he was there found faith in God as he listened to a preacher on the rocks at Corrie. One day, a number of years later, he was standing on the hilltops above Corrie, watching the pleasure boats sailing on the waters of the Firth of Clyde, when the Spirit of God spoke to him. He felt the call of God to give up a prosperous business and commit his life to carrying the gospel message into the villages and countryside of his native land. In 1886, together with others, a proposal was drawn up and this was the beginning of the work of the Faith Mission.
Since then, men and women of the Faith Mission have dedicated themselves to the service of folk all over Scotland, especially in rural areas. The Faith Mission Bible College is now based at Gilmerton Road in Edinburgh, where their excellent bookshop and café are well worth a visit!
During the week of Sunday 26thApril till Sunday 3rd May, the Faith Mission will erect a marquee on the field opposite Sannox Church and various activities will be taking place there.
Schedule:
Daily from 3pm: Tea and coffee in the marquee
Daily from 7:30pm: Evening meetings (except Saturday 2nd)
Daily rhythm of prayer: 9:00am, 12:30pm, 4:30pm – Sunday 26th and 3rd: 3:00pm
Saturday 2nd from 11:00am: S.C.C. open day
Saturday 2nd from 7:30pm: Traditional Ceilidh with music and story telling
All are very welcome to the above free events.
Sannox Christian Centre began in 2012, based on the site of the former Congregational Church and with gifts from folk from far and wide, plus the work of volunteers, is gradually being restored. It is not a church, but works alongside the churches on Arran and is a Christ centered place of rest and restoration.
