Join us for a weekend of shape note singing from The Sacred Harp (1991)! This is an unaccompanied four-part primitive American gospel type singing, with amazing melodies, harmonies and rhythmic pulse sung at full voice. Don’t worry if you’ve never sung in this way – guidance will be offered and there will be a number of experienced singers to carry things through!
It will be a fairly relaxed affair, but we will follow some of the Sacred Harp community’s conventions and traditions for the Saturday singing (prayers, graces, lessons etc). If that means nothing to you – don’t worry…just go with the flow!
More than all that, take time just to enjoy being with us on the island and enjoy a peaceful time!
More details of the weekend will be coming, but do plan to come along! You can come for the whole weekend, or just travel over for the day on Saturday.
There will be a singing school to learn the ropes on Friday night and on Saturday morning, followed by the singing day and a social gathering in the evening.  Sunday afternoon will hold a relaxed, informal sing for those still around.
