Arran Open Studios Weekend
Friday 12th – Monday 15th August
The island wide event known as Arran Open Studios is celebrating its 10th Anniversary this year just as Sannox Christian Centre is also celebrating its 10th Anniversary and Sannox Church is commemorating 200 years. AOS was set up to enable artists who live on the island to open their studios to visitors and demonstrate their artistic abilities and showcase their works. This year’s event is taking place over the weekend of Friday 12th to Monday 15th August.
Sannox Christian Centre is just one of over 30 artists’ venues on the island to be explored. For the duration of the event Sannox Church is transformed into a stunning gallery and is open from 10am to 5pm on the Friday and Saturday, 1pm to 5pm on Sunday and 10am to 1pm of Monday.
The artists at Sannox this year are Ronnie McNeice who is a well-known landscape artist on the island. Ronnie had his own gallery in Blackwaterfoot until he retired a number of years ago. We’re delighted that Ronnie will be exhibiting with us again this year and delighted too that, his wife Barbara is with us again too. Barbara uses her loom to great effect producing the most amazing weavings in a range of beautiful colours. We’re so pleased to welcome our third talented artist, Angie Farrell, wife of Jim our Worship Host, who is exhibiting with us for the first time. Angie is very creative with knitting needles and is already selling her work on the island. Angie also makes lovely garlands which will also be on display. Also this year we have Angela Brookens who has close family ties with Arran. She will be exhibiting her work with a theme of peace, hope and inspiration. The last of our artists is Moira Shirreff, from Edinburgh, with her landscape painted chairs, pastel paintings and cards.
We’d love to welcome you at Sannox during this special event and as you can imagine the Arran Open Studios weekend causes quite a buzz on the island, resulting in it being even busier than usual. If you’d like to visit Sannox and the other venues at this time it would be advisable to book ferry tickets as soon as possible (see www.calmac.co.uk for ferry availability)
