Why ‘Project 200’?
200 years ago – in 1822 – the Sannox Church building and adjacent Manse were completed. 2022 is also the 10th year of Sannox Christian Centre in its present form.
200 years on, the Church has been fully restored, renovated and modernised inside with toilets and kitchen added. The next priority is to renovate the Manse to provide another 6 bedspaces with dining facilities.
Project 200 is the heading for this significant 200th anniversary year – Celebrating the past & building the future.
Our ‘Vision’ for the year:
- 200 new Friends of Sannox
- A total of 200 regular donors by the end of the year
- £200,000 – 1,000 giving £200 each towards the Manse renovation
A diverse range of activities and events will be held throughout the year. Some are at a very early stage of planning, some further advanced, and this page will be updated as plans are finalised. Here are some initial details:
Historical exhibition: A series of wall panels detailing the 200-year history of the church will be displayed in the Church vestibule from February onwards.
Sannox liturgy: Also in February, the Sannox liturgy will be launched – a series of daily devotions, prayers etc. modelled on Celtic Christian traditions for use throughout the week.
The exhibition and liturgy will form the focus of the weekend 11/12 February, when we will also hold our AGM for the year 2020/21.
Focus week: From 11th – 19th June we will hold a series of events and activities at Sannox celebrating our history and looking forwards to the completion of the overall vision.
Schools: We hope that many of the Arran schools will be involved in the year in some creative way, including the June weekend and in the second half of the year. Schools need time to plan and integrate such activities into their school year so this will take some time to arrange.
Arran Open Studios: We plan once again to take part in this very popular August weekend as one of the venues, including hosting all those involved at an opening reception.
Overseas links: We are in touch with overseas descendants of former Arran families and others with link to Arran, and hope some will play a part in the year’s celebrations
Publicity: Information on Project 200 will be produced throughout the year. We already have two colourful leaflets available – one giving general background to Project 200, the other focussing on fundraising for the Manse renovation. If you can help us by displaying some in your church or anywhere else, or by giving them to friends who may be interested, please email us at admin@sannox.org with your postal address and how many copies of either or both leaflets you wish to have, and we will send these to you.
MANSE RENOVATION
A major focus of the year will be to raise the £270,000 estimated cost of renovating and converting the former Manse to provide 6 additional bedspaces in 4 bedrooms with ensuite facilities and lounge/dining area, bringing our total bedspaces to 15.
A key target for Project 200 is to have 1,000 people give £200 each, either as a single gift or over 12 or 24 months by standing order. We already have £61,000 donated or pledged, leaving £209,000.
To support this appeal, you can give by clicking on the ‘Donate’ button above and choosing to give online or by one of the ‘other ways’.
If you choose to give by the online link please ensure that you include a note in the ‘instructions’ section of the online page that your gift is for the Manse.
If you send an individual gift, or set up a standing order from your bank account, please include your initial, surname and ‘Manse’ in the reference so we know to use your gift for this purpose. To obtain our bank details please email us at admin@sannox.org
If you send a cheque to our postal address please add a note to say it is for the Manse renovation fund.
Thank you for your support!
